Welcome to Sunbury State School  (click for a photo story by Steve Meaby)

Welcome to Sunbury State School.  We are a primary school providing a quality education for all students from Prep through to year 7. Our school draws its enrolment mostly from the outlying Maryborough areas of Oakhurst Gardens, Yengarie, Aldershot, as well as the local suburbs of Baddow and Sunbury. Our school serves a diverse community which is made up of families who have made lifestyle choices to live on small acreage allotments, farming families, families who live in housing commission homes as well as families who own their own homes.

We enjoy a cohesive community where we all  work together to achieve the best for students.  We celebrate success and diversity and recognise that different people work in different ways.  Positive relationships with students and their families maximise learning outcomes. Students recognise that they are part of a school community and that our school community is part of the wider and global communities.

THE UNIQUENESS OF SUNBURY

Our school prides itself on catering for individual and group needs by embracing and valuing difference within our community. Through a wide variety of processes students gain the confidence and support needed to engage in an interactive curriculum at an individualised pace:

ü      High expectation on student behaviour and self-management.

ü      A focus on the development of student leadership across all year levels.

ü      Pivotal to the teaching and learning process are the positive relationships established between teachers and students.

ü      To maximise the learning opportunities in our junior primary our students will have the same teachers for the first two years of formal schooling.

ü      Our on-site Prep is an integral component of the early education program with many strategies in place to assist transition to year one.

ü      A collaborative whole school approach towards early literacy and literacy intervention.

ü      Fostering and enhancing of relationships with high schools through Year Seven/ Eight transition programs.

ü      A committed and determined focus on water safety for junior years.

ü      A community supported home reading program for all year levels.

ü      Active employment strategies catering for the diversity within our student population and school community.

ü      Student to computer ratio exceeds departmental requirement.

ü      Our special education class assists us to value the full range of our community.
