ARRIVING AND DEPARTING
FROM SCHOOL
Children are not to arrive at
school before 8.30 am as supervision is not provided until then. Children
arriving earlier than 8.30 will be required to sit quietly under the school
building. Once students arrive at school they are not permitted to leave the
grounds without the Principal’s permission. This includes going to the shop
across the road during break times. If children are waiting to be collected
after school, they are taught to come to the office once the crossing
supervisors leave their area – this is around 3.30 and is designed with your
child’s safety in mind. |

CLASS
PACKS At our school we have a voluntary levy system that provides your child
with all items they will need for the school year including pens, pencils,
exercise books, discs, cassettes, glue, paper, copying etc. Upon enrolment you
will be provided with the levy sheet to sign or a book list to fill, depending
on your choice. Children in years 4 to 7 will also need a Heinemann Australian
Dictionary and a calculator which can be used for each of those year levels.

COLLECTING STUDENTS
From time to time you may need to collect your child early from school. For
safety reasons, we require that you come to the office and sign our register
when you pick them up. The office will contact the class teacher upon your
arrival and organise for your child to meet you here. Students will not be
permitted to leave, until they have been signed out. Students will not be
permitted to wait at gates etc for parents to collect them during the school
day. |

COMMUNICATION
The school sends home a newsletter with the eldest child in each family every
Tuesday. This newsletter is our main tool of communication to homes. We also
use our parade each Monday fortnight and class representative messages to keep
students informed. Class notices and special bulletins are also sent home to
parents. At least once per term class teachers will send home information
about class activities which are currently being undertaken in your child’s
classroom. Literature about how you may be able to support your child’s
learning will also be sent home from the classroom. Teachers are encouraged to
write and phone parents regularly to keep you well informed about your child’s
progress. If you have any queries or concerns, these should be directed to the
teacher in the first instance and then the Deputy Principal or Principal. |
|
CONTACT NUMBERS
If you change your address or telephone number during the year please let the
office staff know so that our school records are kept up to date. Emergency
contact numbers must be provided for all children. We MUST have at least one
emergency contact for each student. |

INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES (ICTS) FOR LEARNING

We are working hard to update our classroom
computers and networks which are in
some cases quite antiquated, but in others very up to date. The
school also has a range of digital microscopes, digital cameras and drawing
tablets available for student use. 2006 will see changes to the way we use
and access technology.
JEWELLERY
is not regarded as suitable school attire and may sometimes cause a safety risk,
therefore, we ask that it is not worn. Children who have their ears pierced may
wear sleepers or studs. Signet rings, medical alert bracelets or necklaces, and
watches are permitted.
LOST
PROPERTY
Losing personal belongings like uniforms, hats and shoes can be very stressful
for children, parents and staff. Much time is wasted searching for lost items,
or finding the owners of items that have been found. This problem is very easily
avoided by ensuring that all uniforms, hats, lunch boxes etc are clearly
labelled with your child’s name. We have a lost property trolley at our office
which you are invited to search through to locate any lost items. Any unclaimed
lost property remaining at the school at the end of each term is donated to
charity.
MAKE UP
also
is not considered to be part of the Sunbury
School Dress Code. Therefore any student wearing make up including nail polish
will be asked to remove it.
MEDICATION
If your child requires any sort of
medication at school, a note from you must be given to the Principal informing
her of the type of medication, dosage and time the medication is to be given. A
school medication form must then be completed and signed by you. The Principal
or office staff must sight the original medication container to verify the
medication has been prescribed for the individual student. We will not
administer any medication without written authority from the parent or guardian
which includes the medication form; this includes Disprin and Panadol. A
register is maintained each time any medication is given to a child. We can
provide a report for yourself or medical team upon request. Medication needs to
be clearly labelled as we cannot by law administer any unmarked medication.
MONEY
Sometimes money needs to be brought to school for different activities. Please
ensure that the child’s name & class, amount enclosed and what the money is for
is clearly marked on the envelope. The envelope should be put in the slot at the
office as soon as your child arrives at school.
SCHOOL RESOURCES
Our students are fortunate to have access to a wide range of quality resources
such as library books and the home reading texts. These are provided free of charge, however if students lose, break or do not return the resources then
families will be invoiced accordingly.
Sun Safety
The risks associated with skin
cancer through over exposure to the sun are very high, therefore we encourage
the wearing of hats and sunscreen during all play times. We ask your assistance
in ensuring that your child has the wide-brimmed hat to wear to school. NO WIDE
BRIMMED HAT - NO PLAY.
