TERM 3

Reminder that Monday 14th July is a Pupil Free Day.  First day for Term 3 is Tuesday, 15th July.

STAFF MOVES

At the end of this term we will be saying farewell to two staff members.

Mrs. Hobson (nee Dodd) and her family are moving to Mt Isa and it is with great sadness that we say goodbye.  Beryl has been a fantastic teacher aide, always ready with a smile and sense of humour to give that little bit extra.  We wish you and your family well.

We also farewell Mr. Lyndon Todd who whilst only with us as a teacher for a term, certainly made a big impact!

Mr. Rossiter returns to the classroom to start next term with Mr. Robinson finishing his regional duties.  We’d like to say thanks to Mr. Rossiter for accepting the position of acting deputy principal for the term and for completing his duties to a high standard.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST - INDIGENOUS TEACHER AIDE

We are sourcing an Expression of Interest for a temporary or casual part time indigenous teacher aide position at this school with a possibility of permanency in the future.

We have a staff member going on leave for terms 3 & 4 who works with our indigenous students. Hours will vary depending on funding to be received early in term 3. We are calling for suitable applicants to cover these hours. All applications will remain current for a period of 12 months.

If you would like to submit an Expression of Interest, packages will be available from the Office or requested by emailing admin@sunburyss.eq.edu.au from Wednesday 18th June to Thursday 26th June.  The closing date for these applications will be Monday 14th July at 3.00pm.

SECRETARY NEEDED

The P&C is desperately seeking a person to fill the position of P&C secretary.  Our previous secretary has won the tuckshop convenor’s position and is unable to continue the secretary’s role as it could pose a conflict of interest. Please contact Deidre Sharp (  4123 4888 or 0429 893 926 if you can help!

CONCERT BAND

All beginners will start in the Concert Band after the holidays.  Band rehearsals will be starting at 8am after the holidays so all students in the band will need to be at school by 7.50am every Thursday.  The band will be performing at the Eisteddfod in August so it is very important that everyone attends every rehearsal.

Mrs. Richardson.

FABULOUS SPORTS DAY!

Our sports day was a sensational event thanks to the participation of students, staff and parents. The 2008 sports day was an active demonstration of what we have been teaching and encouraging at our school over the past few years:

¯      good sportsmanship,

¯      respect for and encouragement of others,

¯      putting in your best effort,

¯      celebrating successes,

¯      students adopting leadership roles and

¯      working together as teams.

At the last count we had close to 150 parents and family members in attendance each with stories of their own personal highlight from the day.  We had many comments about the modifications made to events to accommodate some of our students with special needs so that they too could participate fully in the fun of the day.

Setting the record straight!

Hmmm, there have been a few comments about the strategies and tactics employed by certain staff members during the staff, family and student relay races.  I’d just like to explain that I was very concerned to have found myself pushed in the back, which propelled me halfway down the running track and towards the next relay runner.  Before I was even aware of what was happening, the baton was in my hand and I was across the finishing line.  Surely this constitutes a brilliant win?????

In all seriousness, it was terrific to see that we had so many staff and family members ready to put their body on the line to have fun with the students.

As a child, I vividly recall my mum diving fully clothed into the pool in a swimming carnival parent relay race.  Both proud and slightly embarrassed her participation is something that has been a treasured memory all my life and I’m sure that many of our students will find similar memories when they recall your participation in our 2008 sports day. Thanks to the following parents for their involvement:

Leanne Searle, Maria Sten, Brenda Booker, John Young, Kylie Karner, Darryl Bullen, Lisa Mugford, Tonia Gillard, Susie Anderton, Darryl Shelford, Rob Flemming

Apologies if we missed anyone.

One of the really pleasing aspects to see at the end of the carnival was the totals sheet for each element that makes the carnival.  Aldridge won the most points in Boys athletics, Girls field events, relays, ball games and infants sports with an overall total of 976 points.  Furber won the Boys field events with an overall total of 928 points and Palmer won the Girls Athletics, Infants Sports and year 3 / 4 rotations with an overall winning total of 1009 points.  These totals indicate the closeness of our 3 sports houses and the high level of participation and effort that all of our students contribute to the carnival.

CONGRATULATIONS PALMER!!!!
